Your questions, answered

How much deposit should I look to save?

The deposit amount you’ll need will vary from lender to lender, which is why finding the deal that’s right for you is so crucial. As a rule of thumb, you should expect to pay between 5% and 20% of the property purchase price as your deposit.

As seasoned mortgage experts, we understand that saving a deposit is often one of the most challenging aspects of the house-buying process. Choose us, and we’ll help you understand ways you can boost your savings, like Lifetime ISAs, and review your spending so saving is easier.

What will I need to provide to apply?

Different lenders have different criteria for mortgage applications, but most will want to see three months’ worth of payslips and bank statements. You might also need to provide your employee contract, or tax returns if you’re self-employed.

Having a good credit score can make it more likely your application will be accepted, and lenders may also want to check the source of your deposit. For these reasons and more, it’s wise to work with a professional adviser or broker like us when preparing and submitting any mortgage application.

Is there a way to see mortgage options?

It’s always worth taking professional advice before applying for a mortgage to ensure you get the most appropriate rate for your circumstances. But if you just want to see at a glance which mortgages you’re likely to be accepted for, we’ve developed the ideal tool.

Our mortgage calculator will reveal the mortgages available to you in just a few short steps that take less than 10 minutes to complete. Best of all, the calculator will show results from the whole market, with no bias or restrictions.
