Will I need to make a down payment?
If your new mortgage is up to 25% lower than your existing one, you may need to make a pre-payment to qualify for portability with no penalty. If your new home is more expensive, you’ll probably need to negotiate a brand-new agreement for the extra amount of money needed from your lender.
